WOC-WTOC 2014 presented in Trento (Italy): less than a month to the worlds!

World Orienteering and Trail Orienteering Championships (WOC-WTOC) next July 54 nations, 500 athletes and over 2000 participants to the ‘5 Days of Italy’ promo event Sport, fun, environment and tourism are key words.
Entries to the ‘5 Days’ open until Sunday 15 June.

Trentino and Veneto regions (Northern Italy) are to host the 2014 World Orienteering and Trail Orienteering Championships (WOC-WTOC) from 5 to 12 July. The world event was officially unveiled in Trento, yesterday, and main national and local institutions and partners took part in the press conference along with several members of the media.
‘When we approached this project four years ago – Councillor of the Trento Province Tiziano Mellarini claimed - we all believed in a positive collaboration with neighbours in Veneto region, and a huge event such as the World Orienteering and Trail Orienteering Championships represents a fantastic opportunity for us all to promote our land from a touristic and economic point of view thanks to incredible sport events in both areas.’
The city of Trento together with Venice are the two urban areas of the forthcoming World Championships, but orienteers will be exploring and pointing their compasses to the Lavarone, Folgaria, Luserna and Asiago mountainous and hilly plateaus and to the Valsugana area with its beautiful lakes, too.
‘It won’t be just a matter of competitions and mere sport results – underlined OC President Gian Pietro Mazzeni – of course those are important, but next July we’ll be also housing the IOF Congress and the ‘5 Days of Italy’ promo event with more than 2.000 participants from every corner of the world. As a whole, people from 54 nations will gather here in less than a month, 500 athletes will battle it out for world medals and we expect around 20.000 people visiting Trentino and Veneto areas.’
FISO (Italian Orienteering Federation) vice president Giuseppe Simoni was also at the conference yesterday and so it was President of Trentino sub-committee of CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) Giorgio Torgler and representatives of local tourism boards who pointed out that the 2014 WOC-WTOC will be broadcast live in Sweden, Norway and Finland, and probably in France, Czech Republic and Switzerland as well. Highlights will be available in the US, New Zealand and Australia.
WOC and WTOC competitions will be flanked by the promo event ‘5 Days of Italy’ and the last entry deadline is Sunday, 15 June, with the exception of the Open and Beginners categories that will have the possibility to register during the next month or even on the race days. All instructions, forms and prices are available in details on the WOC-WTOC official website
